FINE-ART
CARVED GOURDS AND EMBROIDERIES

The Alfaro Nuñez family

gourd collection 2005-01

The carved gourd art in this collection was made by Sr. Angel Alfaro Nuñez, recipient of serveral prestigious awards. The gourd in photo four is among those which won third prize in a national contest. Told in this work is the life story of an Andean boy from birth until death, showing all the events through which the boy passed and his life's-work, including livestock raising, agriculture, and craftswork.

In photo one, the large art gourds are of a different design, taking the form of birds. Their colors come from the application of heat and the use of embers.

There are works with Andean scenes and also with jungle animals.

Since this picture was taken, the work shown in the foreground of photo one has been stolen. If anyone should have any information about this work, we would very much appreciate his or her kindness in contacting us. This work carries on its base the signature of its maker, Angel Alfaro Nuñez.

In August of 2005, the National Museum of Archeology, Anthropology and History of Peru honored us with the opportunity to show our work in its temporary exhibition gallery. In 2005 and 2006 the National Museum also gave us the opportunity to show our work, in its artists' workshop.
